Les Trois Vallees ski area is in the heart of the French Alps and has rightly earned its reputation as the largest integrated skiing area in the world. With 318 marked trails offering a total of 600km+ of pure skiing enjoyment. This is serviced by just over 180 ski-lifts.
Located south of Albertville, Les Trois Vallees ski area is easy to reach via both the Swiss and French motorway systems. When travelling from the south, take the A41 motorway at Grenoble. Then follow the well-maintained N90 to Albertville, which runs parallel to the motorway. When travelling from the north, the best route to take is from Geneva in Switzerland via the N201 to Annecy. From Albertville, the N90 goes to Moûtiers, which is at the start of the whole skiing area.
The apres-ski options are numerous and varied in the Les Trois Vallees ski area. There’s something for all tastes. Dance the afternoon away on a sun-drenched terrace on the trails in Méribel or enjoy a relaxing natural spa in Brides Les Bains. For those looking for adventure, it’s also possible to try out dog sledging in Tania!
Les Trois Vallees ski area is made of eight (8) ski resorts: Courchevel, La Tania, Brides Les Bains, and Méribel. As well as Orelle, Les Menuires, Val Thorens and Saint Martin De Belleville!
Courchevel offers exceptional skiing and snowboarding. In addition to the extensive terrain, it is renowned as a billionaire’s winter playground and the most glamorous ski resort in France. The snow here is usually some of the best in the combined ski area. There’s terrain to suit everyone from beginner to expert.
Meribel is the bestselling resort in Les Trois Vallees ski area, with its wide variety of central chalets and hotels. It is also ideally located between the popular Courchevel and Val Thorens resorts. With 150km of marked trails, there is a variety of terrain to choose from. This includes powder skiing, tree skiing, off-piste and Olympic downhill trails. The central village is one of the prettiest ski resorts in France with a bustling town and fantastic après venues.
Val Thorens ski resort
Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe sitting at 2,300m, giving it incomparable snow quality and a long season. Most ski accommodation are ski in – ski out which makes a week’s holiday easier for beginners and gives intermediates and experts the joy of maximum ski time.
If you are looking for a peaceful family holiday La Tania may be the resort for you. Purpose-built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, it is now a cosy resort in the heart of a magnificent forest. A great ski in-ski out option, La Tania has a pedestrian-only resort center with 600km of ski runs at its doorstep.
While Brides Les Bains is the low-cost resort of Les Trois Vallees, it is also quite large. The resort offers 53 lifts and an incredible 2,350 (7,710 ft) vertical drop. It has 1,270 acres of terrain over 77 pistes with a total length of 35km (22 mi). From Brides Les Bains, hop on the Olympic gondola to reach Meribel and the rest of Les Trois Vallees ski area!
Orelle, a small village in the Maurienne Valley, offers the fastest access to the entire Les Trois Vallees ski area. The town center is located at low 880m. However, the 3 Vallees Express gondola will quickly take you up the ski area summit at 3240m. The wellness center at Orelle is also a popular attraction. It offers jet pools, saunas, Turkish baths, and massages.
Les Menuires ski resort offers a variety of skiing and snowboarding experiences. Your experience will be heavily impacted by the type of lift ticket purchased. There are five options, including the beginner pass. While Les Menuires isn’t particularly known for apres-ski, there are a few, quieter choices in the resort.
Saint Martin De Belleville ski resort
Despite being known as a traditional rural village for many years, Saint Martin has evolved into a modern ski village. However, it has not lost its identity as a Baroque style resort. From Saint Martin, skiers can connect to the Les Trois Vallees system with an 8-seater cable car in just a few minutes.
