Aspen ski resort

Colorado, United States

Aspen ski resort sits to the south and above the town of Aspen Colorado. The town of Aspen is 220 miles southwest of Denver International Airport. With the summit elevation at 11,212ft (3,418m) and base elevation at 7,945 ft (2,422m), you can speed to the top riding the Silver Queen Gondola. Then enjoy the ride down. Moreover, with a vertical drop of 3,267ft (996m) and double black (expert level only) and tree runs are fun for both skiers and snowboarders.

History Snapshot: Aspen ski resort was formed in the late 1800s as a silver mining camp. Whilst Aspen ski resort still retains some historic character, the town can now largely be characterized as an upscale tourist mecca and a playground for the rich and glamorous. Aspen Mountain and its famous black-diamond terrain has kept the ski resort on the map since its rejuvenation in 1947.

In bounds, Aspen ski resort offers a variety of glades, bumps, and steeps. At 273 hectares (675 acres), it is a good sized ski resort. It has 76 trails and 8 lifts. The main lift, a gondola, ascends from the Gondola Plaza in town up to the top of the ski resort in only 14 minutes. The ski resort also has an express quad and fast double chair, and 5 slower lifts. You'll also appreciate the new gondola, great views, and food at the Sundeck at the summit and Ajax Tavern at the base, where the après rivals the skiing and snowboarding.

Although Aspen ski resort has almost no beginner runs, just 10% of the mountain caters to beginners, it is well known for the many blue cruisers for strong intermediates, and the black diamond steeps and bumps. The terrain split is 43% intermediate, 19% advanced, and 28% expert (double black)

At Aspen ski resort you can ski down the same runs that hosted World Cup races, ride through gladed powder stashes, chase after the snowcat-towed Oasis Champagne Bar, or put together one quad-burning top-to-bottom after another. And all of this is just steps away from downtown Aspen. No wonder this ski resort is a legend.
