Crested Butte ski resort

Colorado, United States

Crested Butte ski resort is located in Gunnison in the heart of Colorado's the Rocky Mountains. It is the place to inspire your passion for adventure. The village sits at 2,856m and the lifts lead up to 3,707m. The vertical drop is 846m (2,775ft), and when you include the hike-to-terrain it extends to 933m (3,062ft).

Known for offering extreme and diverse terrain, Crested Butte ski resort is considered one of the birthplaces of free-skiing. It has helped revolutionize skiing by starting free ski and Telemark skiing extremes competitions. It has also been called home for many revolutionary skiers such as Seth Morrison and FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and Winter Olympics athlete Wendy Fisher, as well as extreme sports film production company Matchstick Productions.

Crested Butte ski resort is known for extreme steeps, best snow and best-groomed corduroy in Colorado! It is a real winter paradise with 121 trails ranging from beginner to intermediate groomers, bumps, glades and the famous experts "Extreme Limits" terrain. The size of the skiable area is 1,167 acres (472 hectares). And once you get into the off-piste and extreme areas, the ski resort feels much larger than the statistic.

The terrain statistics are 27% beginner, 57% intermediate, and 16 % advanced. However, this doesn’t paint the true picture of Crested Butte ski resort. In reality, the terrain offers great runs for beginners and experts. And, the stats don’t portray the many double black diamond trails that are the resort’s signature.

The upper parts of the mountain are steep and rocky and offer a diversity of terrain including bowls, chutes, glades, and mandatory cliff jumps. This is some of the gnarliest terrain to be found at a North American ski resort. It’s for good reason that Crested Butte ski resort hosts various extreme freeskiing championships!

The charming town of Crested Butte is located 45 minutes from Gunnison and just a about 15 minutes from the ski lifts at Crested Butte ski resort. This historic Victorian town has a population of only 1,700 people. The colorful buildings look like they’re from a western movie set. The town has been labelled as “the last great Colorado ski town”. It’s a reminder of what some of the other Colorado ski towns used to be like before the developers arrived.
