Kirkwood ski resort offers ample and diverse terrain that consists of bowls, snowfields, glades, chutes, gullies and groomed runs spreading over 65km. The long ridgeline is crested with miles of dramatic cliffs and cornice. A unique combination of geography and elevation bring more snow, and better snow, to these trails than those of any other resort in the region. Options for access include two separate base areas, as well as a cross country/snowshoe center accessible with 12 lifts.

There is a designated beginner area away from the more advanced and faster skiers, and trails for intermediates that aren’t too gnarly despite trail names such as “Ditch of Doom” and “Trench of Terror”! The terrain breakdown at Kirkwood ski resort is approximately 15% beginner trails, 50% intermediate and 35% for advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Kirkwood ski resort boasts a unique location atop the Sierra Crest. With elevations ranging 7,800 to 9,800ft, it has been referred to as the K-Factor: a geographical predisposition to receiving the lightest, the driest, and the most plentiful snow in the Tahoe region. With a high vertical drop, and over 2,300 acres of terrain, from calm groomed beginner runs, to hair raising cornices, cliffs and the most high-angle grooming around, there’s something for everyone at the ski resort.

Kirkwood is for the avid adventurer looking to explore on a more intimate level. The unique terrain at Kirkwood offers lift access to backcountry opportunities within the resort boundaries and provides the perfect backdrop for specialty skiing and snowboarding, private guides, and backcountry awareness offerings.
