Morzine ski resort, located in Haute-Savoie region, is one of the closest major French resorts to the gateway city of Geneva. It is also in the middle of one of the most extensive ski regions in the Alps, Les Portes du Soleil. (French for “Doors to the Sun”). The Portes du Soleil Ski Area includes 14 French Ski Resorts and offers a combined total of 285 individual pistes that make up 400km of terrain. Morzine ski resort offers an extensive local network of gentle wooded trials. For keen piste-bashers wanting to do multiple tours of the Portes du Soleil circuit it is better positioned than the other resorts. The terrain breakdown for Morzine ski resort is 8% beginner trails, 36% intermediate and 56% for advanced skiers and snowboarders.
The easily accessible nursery runs for beginners are wide and gentle with many snow making cannons to keep the snow at its best. For the more intermediate skiers they have lovely wide pistes and enjoy the tree lined runs, big bowls and the ability to cover the whole Portes du Soleil area on more intermediate runs. Challenging pistes and famous runs such as the Swiss wall and the world cup downhill black runs will keep advanced skiers working hard.
Off the trials, Morzine ski resort is one of those destinations where there are a reasonable amount of other activities to fill the hours while your companions are whizzing down the mountain. These include ice-diving beneath a lake, nature discovery tours, snowmobiling, tobogganing, snowshoeing and shopping. There's also a world-class ice rink and a large swimming pool. Did we mention ice-driving? Seriously, you have to do this!
