Nozawa Onsen ski resort is located in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Renowned for its onsen since the Edo period, the village also played a significant role in the history of skiing in Japan. The village sits at the foot of Kenashi-Yama at 565m and the lifts lead you up to 1,650m providing skiers and boarders with a 1,085m vertical drop.

Nozawa Onsen ski resort has always been at the top of the Japanese skiing scene, and more recently snowboarding. It was the first place in the country to install ski lifts and also holds numerous major skiing and snowboarding competitions and events. It was also the host for the Biathlon competitions at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Games.

The mountain at Nozawa Onsen ski resort offers great terrain for all standards, both on the wide groomed runs or the magical tree runs. They also have runs over 3km long. All skiing and snowboarding levels can access the top of the mountain and enjoy the views of the surrounding ranges. The area of Uenotiara is a great place for learning with gentle runs that stretch for 2km. It is wonderful place for improving your skills with a gondola ride up and back to make access easy.

Nozawa Onsen ski resort has trails suitable for every skill level. From long groomed wide trails for beginners to parks, a half-pipe, moguls, and a 39 degree incline for the more hard-core skiers and snowboarders. The terrain breakdown is approximately 40% beginner trails, 30% intermediate and 30% for advanced skiers and snowboarders.

No visit to Nozawa Onsen ski resort would be complete without taking a hot natural spring bath. After all, the Onsen in Nozawa Onsen is the Japanese word for hot springs. In summers, the resort plants flowers along several of the ski runs, and opens parts of the resort to mountain bikers and hikers. Other summer activities such as mallet golf and camping.
